NEW YORK (AP) -- Indignant conservative groups are protesting this week's opening of the film "Kinsey," denouncing it as propaganda seeking to glorify the researcher they blame for inspiring the sexual revolution.
"Alfred Kinsey is responsible in part for my generation being forced to deal face-to-face with the devastating consequences of sexually transmitted diseases, pornography and abortion," said Brandi Swindell, head of a college-oriented group called Generation Life that plans to picket theaters showing the film.
"Instead of being lionized, Kinsey's proper place is with Nazi Dr. Josef Mengele or your average Hollywood horror flick mad scientist," said Robert Knight, director of Concerned Women of America's Culture & Family Institute.
Focus on the Family, an influential Christian ministry based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, said in a review of the film that "Kinsey" mocks Christianity and condones immorality.
Focus on the Family and its allies blame Kinsey for a host of ills -- including clearing a path for candid, comprehensive sex education programs espoused by organizations like the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States.

Goddamn, I love this country! I know Ive said it a thousand times, and Ill more than likely say it a thousand more- I just dont get it. If you dont agree with the film, then dont go see it! Its that simple, folks. Why are these conservative groups so adamantly apposed to letting people make up their own minds? No one is going to force them to sit through this movie. Free thought and free speech seem to be the enemy as far as theyre concerned. And comparing Dr. Kinsey to Josef Mengele is absurd- that really illustrates how stupid these people are. That is like comparing Bill Clinton to Adolf Hitler.sure, he did some things sexually he shouldnt have been doing, but he sure as hell didnt kill anyone in the process! (for those who arent familiar with Nazi history, Mengele was a Dr who performed countless brutal experiments on concentration camp victims)
These groups are trying to blame every social ill of the last 50 years on a guy who merely asked questions...that was, after all, his job- research. I didn't realize that Kinsey was directly responsible for the spread of AIDS and ghonorea until I read this! By being bold enough to ask the questions no one wanted to ask, Kinsey brought to light the myriad of sexual behaviors already at play in America. He didnt create these behaviors, he merely reported them. Talk about trying to shoot the messenger! And while Im on the subject of censorship, let me tell you why I dont shop at Wal-Mart: They are evil. The largest retail store in the country, where a vast # of Americans do all or most of their shopping refuse to carry books such as George Carlins, When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops? and History of America with Jon Stewart. Wal-Mart spokeswoman Karen Burk said the book was not being stocked in Wal-Mart stores because the company felt it "would not appeal to a majority of our customers." Well, the majority of your customers dont have to buy it- but dont you think it would be nice to at least give them the option? This wouldnt bother me if we were talking about a little mom and pop store- but Walmart practically has a stranglehold on the retail market in this country. When a company this big begins dictating what its shoppers can and cannot buy, we have a serious problem.

I for one dont need Wal-Mart acting as my moral compass.
